Abstract

1315651 Magnetic surveying SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 May 1970 [14 Feb 1969] 8076/69 Heading G1N [Also in Division H4] Hydrographic survey equipment comprises a submersible structure on which are mounted a sonar transducer arrangement having a narrow beam transmitting-receiving characteristic, and a magnetometer arranged to give a signal indicative of the magnitude of the resultant of the earth's magnetic field and any local magnetic disturbance to it. The equipment is intended for surveying a sea-bed area where a pipe-line is buried and in use is suspended below a ship, with the sonar beam downwardly directed. The sonar is a conventional pulse-echo type with a chart recorder for echo signals. The transducer arrangement comprises three coplanar elongated transducers arranged in a T formation.
