1315447 Drawing pipes or bars MOSKOVSKY ZAVOD ELEKTROVAKUUMNYKH PRIBOROV 6 May 1971 13550/71 Heading C1M An apparatus for drawing quartz pipes or bars from blanks of larger diameter comprises a working head 1 for feeding a blank to a heating zone and a second working head 3 for drawing the pipe or bars and means such as gas burners 5 situated between the two heads for locally heating the pipe or bar blank. Each working head includes a hollow spindle 13 secured at one end to a sprocket 14 driven by a drive shaft 8 (Fig. 1) and at the other end to axles 15 with pinions 16 and toothed wheels 17. Mounted on the axles 15 are spring biased levers 18 and 19 on which are further mounted shafts 20 carrying rollers 22 which in use engage either side of the pipe or bar. The rollers 22 are rotated about their own axes by the toothed wheel 17 engaging gears 21 on shafts 20, the toothed wheel being driven in turn by a toothed wheel 25 acting through a sun gear 26. Thus, rotation of the spindle 13 is transmitted through the rollers to cause rotation of the pipe or bar while the rotation of the rollers 22 imparts axial displacement thereto. A device 11 is provided for welding additional material on to the blank without discontinuing the working process. The device includes a spindle 34 carrying chuck 35 and which is kinematically connected to the drive shaft 8. The device also includes a burner 33 for heating the ends of the blanks. A mechanism 12 is provided for cutting off lengths of the finished pipe or bar which includes a slider 36 reciprocal along guides 37 by means of a motor 38 and which carries disc blade 42 for scoring the pipe or bar and a striker for breaking off the scored portion.
