1314066 Filter press cloths SEITZ-ASBESTWERKE THEO & GEO SEITZ 24 April 1970 [28 April 1969] 1971070 Heading BID A sheet of organic and/or inorganic fibrous filter medium adapted to be hung over the plate or frame of a filter press so that portions 11, 12 serve as filtering sections on opposite sides thereof has portions 11, 12 connected by integral spine 13 from which they are partly divided by grooves 14, 15 pressed into the upper or lower surface of the sheet (Fig. 4, not shown), and the spine and portions 11, 12 adjacent thereto are reinforced by means 18 applied to the upper and/or lower surface or located between plies forming the sheet. Figs. 5 to 9 (not shown) illustrate how various sheets are manufactured as a continuous band on a felt-making machine. In Figs. 5 to 8, reinforcement 18 is a strip of woven fabric unwound from a roll (26) and applied, with or without adhesive, to the top of a newly deposited layer of wet fibres, or to the moving belt of the machine prior to depositing fibres thereon, or on to one layer of fibres prior to depositing another layer. Fig. 9 illustrates a machine in which reinforcement 18 is applied as a solution, aqueous emulsion or dry powder of plastics by sprays (29) and subsequently hardened by heating. In all cases the reinforcement is applied to the central part of the band being formed (Fig. 6), which is grooved and cut into sheets after coming off the machine.
