Abstract
1312828 Measuring fluid flow electrically SIEMENS AG 29 June 1970 [28 June 1969 1 July 1969] 31457/70 Heading G1N In a fluid flow monitoring device of the kind shown in Specification 1236200 in which a sensor 8 having a temperature dependent electrical parameter has its temperature influenced by a heater 4 to cause heat to be exchanged between a sensing surface 2 and the fluid 3 being monitored the heater energization is automatically adjusted when the temperature at the surface 2 reaches a predetermined value. The semi-conductor resistor or thermocouple sensor 8 is potted with a positive temperature co-efficient semi-conductor resistor 9 in a good thermal conductor heat insulating material 6. If the temperature of the resistor 9 rises above a pre-selected value then to prevent over heating of sensor 8 relay 15, Fig. 2, is energized to change over to lower voltage tapping 17 on supply transformer 10 to decrease the A. C. supplied to heater 4. The heater current may be reduced sharply above the limit or continuously. Alternatively the device may be arranged to bring about an increase in energization of the heater when the temperature falls below a low temperature value. Three temperature sensitive resistors may be used to control the heater each for one of various temperative ranges of the sensor.
