1307673 Combined hydraulic shock absorbers and pneumatic springs ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO Ltd 3 April 1970 [3 April 1969] 17426/69 Heading F2S In a combination of a rolling diaphragm pneumatic spring with a tube-within-a-tube hydraulic shock absorber having a valved piston, and a valve controlling liquid flow between the tubes, the diaphragm 30 of the pneumatic spring is generally tubular, is fitted at one end to the outer (reservoir) tube 10 of the shock absorber, and is formed at the other end with a radially inwardly directed flange 34, the inner periphery of which surrounds, and, as shown, engages and seals against the piston-rod 22, 24. The end of the diaphragm fitted to the tube 10 may be extended to the end of the tube and formed with a radial flange 54 as shown in dotted lines, the flange having a thickened inner periphery to sealingly engage the piston-rod.
