Abstract

1306352 Moulding rotors PLENTY & SON Ltd 27 Jan 1970 [29 Jan 1969] 5004/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division Fl] An intermeshing rotor of a positive displacement screw pump or Rootes blower, is moulded by casting settable plastics material, preferably under vacuum, around a metal or carbon fibre reinforced plastics core, within a mould shaped to correspond to the configuration of the rotor. The plastics material may comprise nylon, epoxy, phenolic, or p.v.c. resin, preferably filled with 90% or more of cast iron powder, bronze powder, graphite, carbon fibre, slate and stone. The metal core may be a straight or twisted polygon or may comprise a cylinder 26 or be of a shape 32 corresponding to that of the rotor, as in the described embodiment wherein male 10, and female 12, pump screw rotors intermesh at a running clearance within an external casing, the sealing between the screws being improved by projecting fin seals 23.
