Abstract

1301274 Steam generators INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION (HOLDINGS) Ltd 7 Jan 1970 [9 Jan 1969] 1404/69 Heading F4A Steam generating equipment with superheating and reheating stages 1, 7 each having steam inlets and outlets, has a non-contact heat exchanger 8 with a first flow path 9 connected to the superheater outlet and a second flow path connected via regulating valves 12, 13 to the two heater inlets. The superheating stage 1 is a third stage superheater and steam flows from it through the flow path 9 or a valve-controlled by-pass 16, 17 and via spray desuperheaters 3, 4 to a fourth stage superheater 2. Steam from this superheater 2 drives a high pressure turbine and then returns through emergency spray desuperheaters 5, 6 to the heat exchanger 8 and reheater 7. Valve controlled by-passes 14, 15 are provided around the heat exchanger 8. This system allows control of steam temperature over a wide range of boiler loads; at high load it may be necessary to supplement the boiler heating effect by control of burner tilt.
