Abstract

130,089. Kingsland Research Syndicate, and Torazzi, M. F. July 31, 1918. Variable-speed friction gearing in which an adjustable roller in the driving-shaft is gripped between a pair of friction disks connected with the driven shaft. Means are provided to disconnect the disks and the driven shaft and establish a direct drive from the driving to the driven shaft when the speeds of the shafts become equal. A pair of friction disks C arranged in bearings in a casing G are pressed by springs c into engagement with opposite sides of a roller f slidably keyed to the driving-shaft A. A second driving- roller (not shown) may be arranged on the other side of the centres of the disks C for reverse. The disks C drive the driven shaft B through bevelgearing c<3>, e, a pair of countershafts E, and spurgearing e<3>, b. When the roller f is brought opposite gaps c<5> in the disks C, a clutch-part a<4> on the shaft A may be brought into engagement with a sliding clutch-part b<1> on the shaft B for direct drive, the toothed arm b<2> being at the same time disengaged from its wheel b by levers b<4> and clutch teeth b<6>.
