Abstract

1292638 Tunnel linings KINNEAR MOODIE (CONCRETE) Ltd and R J S McBEAN 7 Dec 1970 [16 Dec 1969] 61269/69 Heading E1F A tunnel lining comprises segments each of which has tie members extending circumferentially through it and attached to the tie members of the adjacent segments The tie members are wires or rods and these may be cast in the segments or extend through holes in the segments. Each ring of the lining includes segments 10, 11 and 12 and a key segment 13. One end of each wire or rod is screwed and the other end has a collar, the adjacent wires or rods being interconnected by couplers which are internally screwed at one end and have collar-engaging shoulders at the other, Fig. 13 (not shown). The key segment 13 is secured in position by bolts and internally threaded couplers, Figs. 11 and 14 (not shown). Adjacent rings of the lining may have tongue and groove, knuckle and socket, half-lapped or tapered joints or be connected by dowels, and similar joints may be provided between the segments. The coupling between adjacent rods or wires may be by screwed engagement only, Fig. 21 (not shown), or one end of the couplers may be screwed and the other end have a U- shaped spring clip engaging a groove in the associated wire or rod, Figs. 17 and 18 (not shown). The key segment may have a recess in which is fitted a block secured in position by dowels, Fig. 23 (not shown). Grouting holes are provided for grouting between the bore of the tunnel and its lining and for grouting the rods or wires and their interconnections in position.
