Abstract

1292124 Mechanical switches ESSEX INTERNATIONAL Inc 4 Nov 1969 [19 Aug 1969] 16466/72 Divided out of 1292123 Heading H1N A coupling rod 4, 6 has a pair of pressure. sensitive switching elements 10, 16 arranged so that one is compressed to make it conductive when the rod is under compression, and the other when it is under tension. The upper part 6 of the rod, slides in a sleeve 2 fixed to the lower part 4, and has a transverse pin 7, moving in slots 3 in the sleeve, and capable of pressing on one or other of conducting discs 8, 9, which, in turn compress the switching elements 10 and 16 respectively. These switching elements are connected through insulated electrodes 11, 17 to output terminals 15, 21, the common return being through rod 6, clamp 23 and lead 22. The switching units each comprise a pad of synthetic rubber supporting conductive particles, e.g. silver coated, copper particles as described in Specification 1,290,963. It is described how the switch may be used to control vehicle door locks having reversible electric motors. The two switch units need not be identical. (For Figure see next column.)
