Abstract
1286330 Casting processes and moulds; moulding processes ELECTRIC POWER STORAGE Ltd 19 Nov 1970 [21 Nov 1969] 57066/69 Heading B3F Electric battery grids are made by casting lead into a mould of which at least the melt contacting surfaces are made of silicon nitride. The two-part mould includes silicon nitride cavitydefining inserts 10, 11, vented at 13 and clamped to cast-iron backing-plates 16, 17 by screweddown bevelled plates 24, 25. Asbestos paper 18, 19 is interposed between the backing-plates 16, 17 and inserts 10, 11. If it is desired to increase the heat flow from the mould, copper plates can be interposed between the backing-plates and silicon nitride inserts. Moulding processes.-The Si 3 N 4 inserts can be prepared by pressing Si powder between pattern dies and heating the pressings in an atmosphere of N 2 .
