Abstract
1285411 Furniture joints BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 16226/70 Heading A4H A joint between an upright tubular frame member 1 and two lateral tubular frame members 5 in a common plane is formed by bonding inserts 2, 6 by an epoxy resin adhesive into the ends of members 1, 5, drilling intersecting holes 4, 3 in the insert 2 and the upright 1, holes 4 opening at two adjacent walls of member 1 and hole 3 opening at the upper open end of member 1, drilling blind or open bores in the ends of inserts 6, inserting spigots 7 within holes 4 so that reduced section ends 8 thereof overlap within the member 1, inserting a screw 10 or a pin in hole 3 and in threaded bores 9 in the spigot ends 8, and coating the projecting ends of the spigots, including flats or non symmetrical recesses with an epoxy resin adhesive and inserting them into the bores in the inserts 6. Alternatively, inserts 2, 6 may be a force fit in members 1, 5, or they may be retained by pins 14, 15. A third hole 4 may be provided for connection of a third lateral frame member 5 in the common plane, the three reduced spigot ends overlapping without increasing the cross-section thereof. The frame members may alternatively be of round, oval or polygonal section, and they may be solid; and the spigots may be of rectangular section.
