Abstract
1282796 Turbine blades WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 7 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 57975/70 Heading FIT A gas turbine rotor blade has longitudinal cooling air-passages 26 extending therethrough from the root to adjacent the tip and opening into a tip chamber 36 defining a region of substantially uniform pressure. The cooling air thence exhausts into the main gas stream through a cut-away portion in the wall 38 of chamber 36, the cut-away extending from trailing edge 22 to a point A at the mid-chord region on the low-pressure side 30 of the blade. The point A is slightly downstream of the throat (B) Fig. 2 (not shown) defined between adjacent blades. The coolant flow area at crosssection C is substantially greater than the combined cross-sections of passages 26 upstream of C.
