Abstract

1281080 Producing resist effects with reactive dyes FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 21 Nov 1969 [22 Nov 1968] 57176/69 Heading D1B Resist effects with reactive dyes are produced on flat-surface textile materials of natural or regenerated cellulose fibre by printing the material in any order with a print paste containing a non-volatile organic or inorganic acid or acid salt as reserving agent, the reserving agent containing no fibre reactive groups, and a reactive dyestuff which can be fixed by a two-phase pad-batch or two phase rapid-fixing process, and applying in overlapping manner a further printing paste or padding liquor containing an alkali as fixing agent and another reactive dyestuff which cannot be fixed by the above fixing processes or which gives only low yields, and after drying the material, fixing the dyestuffs by steaming in combination with one of the above two-phase fixing processes. Azo, anthraquinone and phthalocyanine dyes are mentioned, steaming takes place at 98 to 180‹C for 2 to 15 minutes and tartaric acid, citric acid and primary alkali metal phosphates, are preferred acid compounds. In modifications mixtures of reactive dyes of different fixation properties may be used and the acid resist may be applied without reactive dyestuff present. Further additives include urea, wetting agents, weak oxidising agents and/or thickening agents.
