Abstract

1281054 Dental handpieces VANN BROS Ltd 25 Sept 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 50885/69 Heading A5R A handpiece 1 for a dental drill, not shown, comprises a fibre optic light conductor 6 passing along inside the handpiece to emerge near to the operative, distal end, and when in use to convey light from a source, e.g. a light bulb, not shown, to illuminate the tip of the drill. The conductor 6 is substantially rigid and is mounted in conjunction with a water conduit 7 and a pair of air conduits 8. Light is transmitted to one end of the conductor 6 via a similar flexible conductor 9 which is connected to the conductor 6, towards the proximal end of the handpiece, in a connector 10-12, together with a flexible air and water line 4 for connection with the conduits 7 and 8. As shown, the connector comprises a socket 10 to receive the ends of the lines 6, 7, 8 and adapted to receive a gasket 11 and a plug 12 in which the line 4 and conductor 9 are terminated. Alternative power for the handpiece may be used.
