Abstract

1278602 Cooling poultry &c ROSS POULTRY Ltd 31 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38672/69 Heading F4H A chilling or cooling apparatus for poultry or other objects comprises a tank 1 having a rotary shaft 4 to which elongated paddles are attached by pairs of plates 19, 19a and 20, 20a for tumbling the objects in water and/or ice and the outlet end of the tank has a gate (not shown). The gate has a toothed rack arranged to engage a pinion mounted on a rotary shaft and manually operable to raise the gate to a selected level. The objects pass to a hopper 12 having a sump 16 from which the cooled objects are discharged by an elevator 13. The tank is filled with chilling fluid up to the level of an overflow pipe 27 and is recirculated through the tank by a pump 28, returning to the loading end through externally located piping 30. The paddles are inclined so that in rotating they move the objects being cooled towards the discharge end of the apparatus. The angle of the paddles becomes progressively less so that the pressure exerted on the objects is least near the discharge end. A sliding gate at the discharge end can be adjusted to vary the time the objects remain in the cooler.
