Abstract

1275161 Fastening and changing yarn tubes in machines; bobbin supports ELITEX-ZAVODY TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI GENERALNI REDITELSTVI 12 Feb 1970 [13 Feb 1969] 6737/70 Headings DIF and D1J A device for automatically fastening and changing yarn supply tubes of various diameters in textile machines comprises fastening mandrels 4 mounted symmetrically on a rotatable disc 3 above a cam 5, each mandrel 4 having a body 22 with a sleeve 19 mounted axially traversably therein, the upper part of the sleeve having a fastening mechanism for centring and fastening a supply tube 26, the mechanism being controlled by a pin 18 axially traversable in the sleeve 19 and provided with a follower 17 at its end, the follower being resiliently urged against the cam 5. In operation, the disc 3 is indexed to move the mandrels 4 from one position to the next by means of a piston 6 operating a toothed rod 9 which engages a toothed wheel 12 on which is mounted a pawl engaging a ratchet wheel 14 mounted on the shaft 2 of the disc 3. Referring to Figure 4, the empty mandrel 4 is in the ready position. The cam follower 17 moves in the direction S and rides up on the cam 5. The pin 18 is pushed up within the sleeve 19 and pushes up an associated rod 30 within the pin 18. The top of the rod 30 engages fingers 31 on jaws 27 pivoted at 28 in grooves at the top of the sleeve 19, Figure 5. The jaws 27 are pushed out to engage the inside of the yarn supply tube 26 which is positioned on the mandrel. When the yarn has been removed from the tube 26 the disc 3 is again indexed, and the cam follower 17 engages a steep downward slope of the cam 5. A spring 20 urges the pin 18 downwardly and the associated rod 30 disengages the fingers 31 of the jaws 27 which are returned to their grooves under the action of elastic ring 29. As the follower 17 continues down the slope under the influence of spring 23 engaging the fixed body 22 of the mandrel, the sleeve 19 is also urged downwardly within the body 22 and thus releases the yarn tube 26 which is knocked off by a stationary pin 45. Continued movement of the follower over the cam surface prepares the mandrel as in Figure 4 and the sequence is repeated. In an alternative embodiment the fastening element at the top of the sleeve 19 comprises a resilient member fixed to a ring slidable on a rod associated with the rod 30. The top of the resilient member being clamped to the top of the rod. Upward movement of the ring on the rod compresses the resilient member which expands laterally to grip the inside surface of the yarn supply tube. In a further embodiment, the resilient member is connected to a source of pressurised fluid by means of a conduit in the pin 18 and the resilient member is inflated to grip the yarn tube. In a further embodiment, levers are pivotally connected to the jaws 27 to provide a longer contact portion with the inside surface of the yarn tube.
