Abstract

1,272,418. Mining machines. JEFFREY GALION Inc. 5 Aug., 1969 [19 Aug., 1968], No. 39249/69. Heading E1F. A mining machine has at its front end a transversely disposed rotary cutting head, the ends of which are of substantially hemi-ovate form. The head is mounted at the forward end of a pivoted boom and is at least as wide as the rest of the machine which includes a gathering head having oscillating arms feeding a rearwardly extending conveyor. The head has cutting bits 56 mounted in holders 55 disposed on spiral flights and it has cutting chains 58 extending round driving sprockets on the head. The end sections 70 of the head are connected to the adjacent sections 65 by telescoping cylinders so that the overall length of the head can be varied, Fig. 5 (not shown), the end sections being extendable by hydraulic fluid against spring bias.
