Abstract
1,272,210. Well-drilling turbines. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. June 19, 1970 [June 27, 1969], No.29988/70. Heading F1T. The invention relates to a method of regulating flow of working fluid to a well-drilling turbine in which an accumulator having a variable volume is disposed upstream of the turbine and adjacent thereto and through which the turbine working fluid is caused to flow. In Fig. 1 the accumulator is in the form of an expansible tube 2 formed of rubber or like material, the tube being disposed within a rigid tube member 1 which forms part of the drill column, the turbine being mounted at the lower end of the assembly shown. The tube member 1 is formed with apertures 8 whereby the space between the expansible tube 2 and the rigid tube 1 is connectible to the space between the tube 1 and the borehole. The expansible tube is rigidly connected at its ends to the drill column, being shown in its unexpanded condition at the right of Fig. 1 and in its expanded condition in which it is in contact with the rigid tube 1 at the left of Fig. 1. In a second embodiment the expansible tube is fixedly mounted at its upper end but is arranged for axial sliding movement at its lower end. In a further embodiment two coaxial expansible tubes are provided, the inner tube first contacting the outer tube and then both tubes expanding together.
