[Also in Division G1] A magneto-optic transducer having a reduced sensitivity to temperature changes as compared with a transducer having an element of pure YIG includes an element consisting of a single crystal of the garnet Y 3-x Gd x Fe 5 O 12 , where x is 0À1 to 0À4. The transducer may be used in an ammeter, light switch or modulator operated by the Faraday effect. Such an ammeter may be installed in the magnetic field of a power cable in a high-voltage power station, or in mains transmission equipment.
