Abstract
1,265,132. Making filter elements. S. G. KARULIN, V. D. ARSHINOV, E. P. CHERNYSHEV, K. A. ZHOKHOV, and K. K. YAKHONTOV. 14 Jan., 1970, No. 1885/70. Heading BID. A preformed annular filter element 1, made of wood flour and phenol formaldehyde powder moulded and cured, is partly impregnated with phenol formaldehyde resin 4 which may be forced into the central space of the element by supplying compressed air to container 3, the resin remaining in the element for 3 to 4 seconds, after which valve 9 is opened to drain the residual resin therefrom. The element may then be heated to dry the resin, which penetrates by up to 10% of the thickness of the element wall (Fig. 1, not shown). The impregnated layer serves as a rigid support for the outer part. In an alternative method, preformed elements are placed on a table and resin is poured into them, remaining 2 minutes before the residual resin is poured off.
