Abstract
1,265,060. Venting IC. engine fuel tanks . FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Aug.26, 1969 [Sept.3, 1968], No.42442/69. Heading F1B. Fuel vapour from a tank 26 and air from a conduit 74 are fed to the intake manifold 14 under the control of a valve 40. The valve member 46 is biased to a position blocking the communication between vapour and air inlet conduits 70, 74 and respective outlet conduits 77, 78 by a spring 68, the fuel vapour pressure and the vacuum downstream of the throttle valve 20 in chambers 64 and 88, respectively, acting against the spring bias. The spring bias is chosen such that the valve member 46 will open communication between the inlet and outlet conduits with idling vacuum in the chamber 88 and a predetermined vapour pressure, approximately ¢ p.s.i., in the chamber 64. The valve member 46 moves with increased vacuum in chamber 88 to abut stop 90 and close communication between the inlet and outlet conduits. Calibrated orifices 82 and 84 proportion the flow of air and fuel vapour through the conduits 74 and 70. The conduit 74 has an air filter 76.
