Abstract

1,264,278. Time switches. NOVITAS, FABRIK ELEKTRISCHER APPARATE AG. 7 July, 1970 [7 July, 1969], No. 32891/70. Heading H1N. A time switch wherein a switching shaft 20 is stepped by angularly adjustable fingers 171, 172 engaging star wheels 51, 52 on the shaft 20 once per revolution of a rotor 17 driven by a clockwork or other motor 15 via reduction gearing 16 is provided with an alternative programme by axial displacement of the shaft 20, occasioned by a face-cam star wheel 53 which is stepped by an auxiliary finger 173 also angularly adjustable on rotor 17, whereby the star wheels 51, 52 are moved to be stepped by different fingers 171<SP>1</SP>, 172<SP>1</SP> carried by rotor 17 but axially displaced from fingers 171, 172. As shown, rotor 17 completes one revolution in 24 hours and cams 60, 60<SP>1</SP> are arranged (Fig. 4, not shown) to change-over a contact 140 twice in each revolution of rotor 17, the angular steps of shaft 20 being located by a detent 42 and plate 41 corresponding in shape to the star wheels 51, 52. The wheel 53 is freely rotatable on shaft 20 but axially secured thereon. It has seven points and is thus rotated once per week. A fixed plate 133 engages the face-cam portion 530 such that when it encounters a cam rise the wheel 53 and therefore the shaft 20 is shifted axially against the action of a spring 30, thus bringing wheels 51, 52 respectively into alignment with the alternative fingers 1711, 172<SP>1</SP>. The axial dimension of cams 60, 60<SP>1</SP> is such that their action on the contacts is independent of the axial position of shaft 20. A dial 170 is provided on rotor 17 for time-setting of fingers 171 to 173. The programme may be altered by rearrangement of cam members on wheel 53, or by changing the wheel 53. A programme change may be provided by manually stepping wheel 53.
