Abstract

A hose pipe is made from a flexible composition of a blend of a crystalline olefine homopolymer, or copolymer, with a natural or synthetic rubber preferably one or more rubbery homopolymers, or copolymers, of an alphaolefine. The composition may be formed of from 10-70% by weight of crystalline polymer, e.g. propylene, and natural or synthetic rubber and prepared at a temperature above the melting- point of the crystalline constituent and subsequently milled at a temperature below the melting-point of the crystalline constituent to produce an orientated composition. The blend may contain cross-linking, or vulcanization, agents. The hose, which preferably has a Young's modulus of at least 4À5 Î 10<SP>2</SP> pounds per sq. inch, an elongation of not more than 15% in length when subjected to a load of 100 lbs. per sq. inch at a temperature of 30‹ C. over a period of one month, and a flexural fatigue life of at least 10<SP>6</SP> flexes, also may have a fabric, e.g. of polyester, polyamide, or rayon, wrapped around it. The hose may be formed by extruding the composition or, by wrapping a first strip of the composition on a mandrel at an angle of 45 degrees and then wrapping a second strip of the material at the opposite bias to the first strip. The tube is cured, e.g. by steam.
