A conveyer system comprises two conveyers 1 and 2 and two lower tracks 6, 7 which are aligned and, by the operation of switches, form a continuous length of lower track, a first and a second upper track 10, 11 respectively, each track 10, 11 having a zone parallel to the lower tracks 6, 7 and zones diverging from the tracks 6, 7, the zones 3, 4 of. the tracks 10, 11 respectively diverging from the tracks 6, 7 being spaced horizontally from one another; a series of pusher members 15 project downwardly from trolleys 12 at spaced intervals along the tracks 10, 11; a plurality of load-supporting carriers 16 are mounted upon the lower tracks 6, 7, each carrier 16 having an upwardly facing coupling device which comprises decent rockers 19, 20 mounted for pivotal movement in a vertical plane, the rockers 19, 20 having rest positions in which they are raised to intersect the path of the members 15 and non-operative positions in. which they are pivoted below the path of the members 15, the rockers 19, 20 defining between them a space to receive and couple a member 15 for driving the carrier 16; an uncoupling device in the form of a projecting finger 21 which is adapted, when the carrier 16 upon which the finger 21 is mounted makes contact with a second carrier 16, to strike the rocker 19 of the second carrier 16 and pivot it into its non-operative position; the first upper track 10 having a lowered zone parallel to the lower tracks 6, 7, the length of the zone 22 being at least as great as the length of a carrier 16 the zone 22 being spaced at such a distance from the lower track 6, 7 to permit a pusher member 15 moving along the zone 22 to remain coupled with a carrier 16 even if the rocker 19 of such carrier 16 is moved to its non-operative position by the finger 21 of a preceding carrier which has been arrested on the track 6 because the divergence of the first upper track 10 has caused such preceding carrier 16 to be uncoupled from its pusher member 15 and thus arrested, such arrested carrier 16 being then moved along the tracks 6, 7 to be drivingly engaged by a pusher member 15 of the second upper track 11.
