Abstract
125,569. North British Diesel Engine Works, and MacLagan, J. C. M. Dec. 23, 1918. Right to Patent relinquished. Starting. - In valve-gear for starting Diesel and like engines by compressed air, a cylinder and piston device on the end of the cam-actuated tappet rod throws the gear into operative position on the admission of compressed air. In the form shown. two pistons B, D are arranged in an openended cylinder A carried by the valve-rod E<1> of the compresedair starting valve E<2>. The piston B carries the cam bowl B<2>, which is normally held away from the cam C by a spring G<2> encircling the stem G of the piston B. On the admission of compressed air to a conduit A<3>, the pistons are separated to an extent determined by the engagement of the piston D with a shoulder G<3> on the stem G; the cam bowl B<2> is thus brought into a position in which it is actuated by the cam.
