Abstract

1,253,526. Gripping tools. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 Nov., 1969 [29 Nov., 1968], No. 56781/68. Heading B4W. [Also in Divisions A5 and E2] A compound lever mechanism is incorporated in a plier-like tool and comprises arms 1, 2, 3 and 4 jointed together at 5, 6, 7 and 8 by webs that flex. The tool is made as a one-shot injection moulding of a plastics material and due to the resilience of the plastics the tool is biased to an open position. The plastics material is selected from, polyethylene and its copolymers, polyamides such as nylon or polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate, but is preferably polypropylene. A tool may take the form of forceps, Fig. 1, photographic tongs, Fig. 3 (not shown) haemostat clamp or wound dressing forceps Fig. 4 (not shown). In the case of a haemostat clamp or if the tool is a paper clip or clothes peg the handles may have co-operable clips to enable the clamp to be locked in a closed position. Other tools mentioned are eyebrow tweezers, sugar tongs, salad servers, pruning aids or seedling lifters; also the jaw arms may be supplied with blades for the tool to form scissors.
