Abstract

125,024. Murray, H. H. Oct. 24, 1918. Tone-arm joints. - A ball-bearing mounting for talking-machine tone-arms comprises a flared edge at the mouth of the tone-arm engaging bails running on a fixed horizontal ring or support; and an external adjustable pin forms a. secondary bearing in line with the axis of the ring. The sleeve 15 leading to the amplifier has its upper end 16 reduced in diameter forming a shoulder 34 at the same level as a shoulder 18 on the fixed bracket 10. A ring 20 formed with a series of gaps to receive balls 17 rests on the shoulders 18, 34. The tone-arm has its open end flared or bevelled and a bevelled ring 30 is secured therein with its sloping surface resting on the balls. An arm 28 on the bracket 10 supports a vertical pin 11, the lower pointed end 27 of which bears in a socket 26 attached to the tone-arm, the pin 11 being in line with the centre of the tone-arm exit. The upper portion 16 is cut away for a small sector 32, so as to limit the swing of the tone-arm which carries a pin 22 projecting into the gap.
