Abstract

1,247,855. Boots &c. BOSTIK Ltd. 13 Dec., 1968 [14 Dec., 1967], No. 56757/67. Heading A3B. [Also in Division C3] A composition which is used in molten form to bond together plasticized polyvinyl chloride, especially in the form of shoe soles and uppers, comprises 100 parts by weight of a copolyester corresponding to the esterification product of an acid component comprising terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and a linear aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, and a diol component, and up to 50 parts by weight of a nitrogen containing organic compound having a polar group. Such compounds specified are stearamide, a sulphonamide such as N-methyl benzene sulphonamide or a mixture of N- ethyl ortho and para toluene sulphonamides, a cyanopyridine and amino benzoic acid. A preferred composition, most suitable for bonding together plasticized polyvinyl chloride (such as "Patina" and "Arlinghide") comprises 100 parts by wt. of a copolyester corresponding to the esterification product of an acid component comprising terephthalic acid, is ophthalic acid and a linear aliphatic dicarboxylic acid of 2-10 carbon atoms, and one or more aliphatic diols of 2-6 carbon atoms, between 5 and 20 parts by weight of an aromatic sulphonamide and between 1 and 10 parts by weight of fibres, not greater than 1/4 in. in length, of polyacrylonitrile, cellulose or glass.
