Abstract

1,247,241. Coating moulds. GRAPHOIDAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 5 Feb., 1970 [7 Feb., 1969], No. 6796/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for lubricating the dies of a pressure die-casting machine comprises a ram 10 carrying a lubricating head 14, means to cause forward travel and retraction of the ram, a sensor responsive to the extent of forward travel of the ram, and means for remotely controlling the extent of forward travel. The ram is operated by an air cylinder 12, to which air is admitted selectively above or below the ram piston by a valve controlled by solenoids 22, 24. Banks of micro-switches 44, 46, 48 operated by a cam 60 on the ram control both the solenoid 24 initiating retraction of the ram and a further solenoid 72 initiating the spraying of lubricant, such as graphite in an air current, from nozzles 15. Selection of an appropriate micro-switch by control 62 thus controls the extent of forward travel of the ram. A similar arrangement 42 stops the supply of lubricant by operating solenoid 74. The solenoid 22 causing forward travel of the ram is manually or automatically operable by means of a start switch 80. The micro-switches could be induction or magnetic reed switches operated by a magnet on the ram.
