Abstract

1,246,188. I.C. engine exhaust silencers. USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL. Nov.25, 1969 [Dec.18, 1968], No.57543/69. Heading F1B. Exhaust tubes 1 and 2 branching from respective manifolds extend into respective expansion chambers 4 and 5 with a collecting chamber 6 therebetween. The chamber 6 is connected by an outlet tube 7 with the atmosphere or another silencing system. The lengths of the exhaust tubes from the cylinders to their outlets in the expansion chambers may be substantially equal. An eight cylinder horizontal or V-engine, Fig.2 (not shown), has its banks of cylinders (9) connected to respective pairs of expansion chambers in the silencer.
