Abstract

1,245,591. Piles. R. KANJANAVANIT. 24 April, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 22390/68. Heading E1H. A hollow steel or concrete pile-body 10 has a base cap 13 with overlapping channel-shaped members 16 pivotally attached thereto by pins 19 and furnished with oblique ends 22 that mate initially with a drive shoe 24. When the assembly has been almost fully driven into the ground the shoe is thrust somewhat deeper by a plunger, Fig. 3 (not shown) to separate it from the ends 22. The remainder of the assembly is then driven further to force the ends 22 across the edges 30 of the shoe and thereby splay the members as shown in Fig. 5. The interior of the pile body and cavities formed by the splayed members may then be filled with concrete with the aid of the plunger. Edges 28 of cut-away portions of the members limit the outward movement. In another embodiment, Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown) two pairs of said members are provided and the members in each pair are flat, pivotally attached to the base cap by hooked upperends and coupled to each other by pivoted rods.
