Abstract

1,243,741. Anodizing aluminium. P. NEUFELD and H.O. ALI. Jan. 30, 1970 [Jan. 31, 1969], No. 5333/69. Heading C7B. A porous protective film is produced on Al (or alloy) by anodizing it in an aqueous alkaline (e.g. pH 9-12) solution of an alkali metal or ammonium borate, e.g. sodium tetraborate (borax) or ammonium hydrogen tetraborate, above 40‹ C. The cathode may be steel, C or Pt. The film may be sealed by steam or boiling deionized water.
