Abstract

1,239,702. Selective printing; optical printers. ING. C. OLIVETTI & C. S.p.A. 9 June, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 29147/69. Headings B6F and B6W. A thermal printer comprises a record web 22, a ribbon 16 coated with a thermographic material and a character stencil 14 through which infra-red radiant energy or a laser light is projected to cause transfer of the thermographic material to the web 22. As shown in Fig. 1, the stencil is circular and rotated by a motor and has magnetic or other markings which can be connected electrically so that, by means of AND gates and a Kerr cell the radiant energy passes through the selected character.
