Mg-base alloys for use as joining means in bone surgery consist by weight, of rare earth element 0À4 -4% Cd 0À05-1À2% Ca or Al 0À05-1% Mn 0À05-0À5% Ag 0-0À8% Zr 0-0À8% Si 0-0À3% Mg balance Nd and Y are the preferred rare earths. Since the alloy is completely absorbed by the body, a second operation on the patient for removal of the joining means is unnecessary.
