Abstract

1,234,794. Testing banknotes. SODECO SOC DES COMPTEURS DE GENEVE. 17 June, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 28750/68. Heading G4X. A device for detecting a metallic thread in a banknote to test its authenticity comprises a grid 1 for supporting a banknote, an electrode 2 connected to a high frequency generator, and an electrode 3 connected to an amplifier V having a high input impedance, an adjustable threshold unit T, and flip-flop FF. The crossbar 1a may comprise two parts offset from each other with a pair of electrodes spaced each side of each of the two parts, Fig. 5 (not shown), to allow for a break in the metallic thread. In addition, a pair of feelers may rest against both the upper and lower surfaces of the banknotes to detect a counterfeit banknote having a metallic thread secured to the surface, the feelers being in circuit with a relay.
