Planting - tools. - A hand - tool for forming holes in the ground to receive potatoes, seeds, plants, or the like comprises a disk b carrying a series of blades c sharpened at their lower ends c<1>, and a vertically-movable toothed disk or plate d fitting within the blades with the teeth d' entering between each blade. The disk b is carried by a hollow stem a provided with a handle g, the toothed disk d being adjustably secured to a spindle e extending through the stem a and terminating in a head f by means of which the disk can be pressed down to discharge soil from within and between the blades. The blades may be arranged at equal distances apart radially, as shown, or in sections of three or more blades with wide spaces be. tween each section. The disk d may be moved in one direction by a spring.
