[Also in Division C1] A mixing and separating apparatus for obtaining alkali metal bisulphate from chrome anhydride in an acid medium comprises a cylindrical agitation zone A equipped with an L-shaped agitator 2, and a conical settling zone B. In operation the denser chromic anhydride settles in zone B and may be withdrawn via duct 9. The separated alkali metal bisulphate is mainly drawn off via pipe 7 to chamber 6 and is finally withdrawn via pipe 10. Any chromic anhydride contained in this portion settles in the lower part of tank 6 and is returned to zone B via duct 8. Zones A and B, tank 6 and pipes 7, 8, 9, 10 may be kept at a constant temperature of about 200‹C by heating jacket 11 and 12.
