Abstract

1,229,181. Purification of methylene-diphenyl diisocyanate. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORP. 10 July, 1969 [1 Aug., 1968; 1 Nov., 1968], No. 34785/69. Heading C2C. The invention relates to a process of reduction of the chlorine-containing acidic impurity level of methylene-diphenyl diisocyanate, which comprises cooling molten, impure diisocyanate to its solidification temperature, maintaining the diisocyanate at this temperature for a time sufficient to obtain a slurry consisting essentially of pure, solid diisocyanate and a mother liquor containing substantially all of the acidic impurity, and separating the pure diisocyanate from the mother liquor.
