Abstract

122,757. Wardman, H. April 26, 1918. Reciprocating-saw machines. - A device for raising the blades of hack-saw machines from the work during the idle stroke comprises a quadrant arm 20 secured to the arm 8 upon which the saw frame slides and which is pivoted upon the driving-shaft 6, a lever 16 pivoted to a bracket 17 and adapted to be raised during the idle of the saw by an eccentric 15, a forked block 25 straddling the arm 20 and freely suspended from the lever 16 by a link 27, and two members or pins 28 secured in the block 25, one on each side of the arm 20. When the lever 16 is raised, the pins 28 grip the arm 20 and raise the saw through a distance which is regulated by adjusting a stop 2 that supports the block 25 in a substantially horizontal position during the cutting stroke, the arm 20 being then free. The block 25 is pulled downwards by a spring 24.
