Abstract

1,223,163. Radio signalling. NIPPON TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE PUBLIC CORP. 21 June, 1968 [24 June, 1967; 24 July, 1967], No. 29632/68. Heading H4L. In a radio communication system wherein a plurality of earth stations communicate via an orbiting earth satellite, earth stations in an area of high rainfall use a frequency band which is less susceptible to rainfall interference and earth stations in areas of low rainfall use a frequency band which is more susceptible to rainfall interference. This allows a greater bandwidth to be used to increase the traffic capacity. A supervisory circuit monitors the signal strength and signal-to-noise ratio at each station to enable the appropriate carrier frequencies to be allotted. Each ground station may co-operate with a further spaced ground station on a space diversity basis, the two stations being connected by landline, to further minimize the effects of rainfall.
