Abstract
1,214,725. Walking beam conveyers for furnaces. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Aug., 1969 [14 Aug., 1968], No. 38918/68. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B8] In a continuous metal heating furnace of the walking beam type, billets 1 are moved faster through a soaking zone 5 than through a preheating zone 3 by walking beam systems 29 and 9, transfer of the heating billet 1B from system 9 to system 29 being from a datum line or stop 35 formed by the ends of fixed beams 31 in system 29. System 9 comprises fixed beams 11 and. movable beams 13 supported by rollers 15 on bell cranks 17 actuatedby hydraulic motor 21 and system 29 comprises the fixed beams 31 and movable beams 33 supported by rollers 37 on bell cranks 39 actuated by hydraulic motor 43. An hydraulic motor 25 provides the horizontal movement of both sets of movable beams 13 and 33. From the position shown in Fig. 2, beams 13 and 33 are lowered, fully reversed.so that beams 33 are below the billet 1B in the datum position, raised and then advanced by a distance 27. During the last movement billet 1A strikes the ends 35 of fixed beams 31 occupying the datum position. Beams 13 are then lowered to deposit their billets on. beams 11, whereupon beams 13 and 33 are moved together to complete the distance 49, beams 33 then, being lowered to deposit billets on fixed beams 31. These billets will.thus have been moved further than those in the preheating zone 3. The stop arrangementmay be formed by one or more abutments either fixed to or movably associated with the stationary beams 11 and the movable beams may be operated independently and alternately. The system may be applied to a production line in which articles are required to arrive singly at selected stations and in spaced relationship. The two walking beam systems may also be disposed at the same level.
