[Also in Division C3] In a process for the production of a coating agent for orally administrable tablets, said coating agent comprising an aqueous dispersion containing a pharmacologically compatible water-insoluble film-forming synthetic resin, at least one water-soluble non-toxic substance selected from salts, sugars, polyethylene glycols, polyvinyl-pyrrolidones and starch syrups, and/or at least one substance which is soluble in alkaline solutions selected from C 10 -C 20 fatty acids, is first dissolved or suspended in demineralised water, if desired with the use of a small amount of wetting agent, to give a suspension with a viscosity similar to that of the synthetic resin dispersion to be used and this suspension is then slowly mixed with the synthetic resin dispersion, followed by a thorough homogenisation. Edible dyestuffs, pigments and flavourings may also be present. Suitable synthetic resins are polyvinyl esters, acetals, and chlorides, butadiene-styrene co-polymer and polyacrylic acid esters.
