Abstract

1,213,295. Medicated, film-forming compositions. BOOTS PURE DRUG CO. Ltd. 19 April, 1968 [27 April, 1967; 15 Feb., 1968], Nos. 19480/67 and 7494/68. Heading A5B. Pharmaceutical compositions for tropical application comprise a medicament and a fluid, pharmaceutically acceptable carrier comprising an aqueous emulsion of a polyvinylidene chloride having a minimum film-forming temperature of less than 35‹C. which dries to give a flexible, non-tacky, adherent, substantially water-vapour-impermeable film which releases medicament to the underlying surface. The compositions may take the form of creams, liquid sprays and aerosol sprays and may contain buffers, preservatives, opacifyers, viscolisers, suspending agents and humidicants as well as internal and external plasticisers for the polymer. Numerous examples of medicaments are given including anti-inflammatory steroids, antibiotics, antifungal agents, antiseptics and local anaesthetics.
