Abstract

[Also in Division A5] In a hair drying and curl setting device which uses hygroscopic material 14 to absorb the moisture in the hair, the hygroscopic material is contained within pouches 13 formed by superimposing a waterpermeable flexible cover sheet 12 on, and bonding it to, a base plate 10 formed with a plurality of regularly spaced semiglobular shaped projections 11. Alternatively the projections may be bar shaped and arranged parallel to one another. The base plate 10 may be either permeable or non-permeable to water. A transparent or semi-transparent base plate and/or cover sheet may be used and the hygroscopic material mixed with a material (e.g. chromous cloride) which changes colour when moistened so that the extent of water absorption by the hygroscopic material can be indicated. Roll curls can be formed by rolling up together the hair and the device and fastening (Fig. 5). With the device cut into small pieces pin curls can be formed using a clip (15) to hold the hair against the cover sheet (Fig. 6). Waves are produced by placing the hair between two of the devices and corrugating them together.
