Abstract

Japanning.-Metallic articles are dipped in an oil, for example a mixture of whale oil and mineral oil, drained, and then heated to a temperature high enough to gasify the volatile constituents in an oven which permits the escape of the lighter gases. A suitable oven is one having an outlet at the top, the aperture of which can be raised, and a suitable temperature is about 300‹ C. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 2022/73, 4486/74, 9570/88, 9848/88, 1146/96, 3682/04, [Class 82, Metals and alloys], and 3945/15.
