Abstract

1,206,835. Electrophotographic element. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. 16 Feb., 1968 [24 Feb., 1967], No. 7783/68. Heading H1K. [Also in Division C3] An electrophotographic element comprises a conductive support and a layer of photoconductive insulating material disposed in a polyurethane binder produced from an aliphatic monocarboxylic fatty acid ester of a polyhydric alcohol wherein the alcohol has at least two free hydroxyl radicals, and an organic polyisocyanate. The conductive support may be a plate or foil of Al, Cu, Sn, or steel, or paper, cloth or plastics containing inorganic salts to provide conductivity. The photoconductor may be Se, S or oxides, sulphides, selenides or tellurides of Zn, Al, Ti, Pb, Sb, Bi, Cd, Hg, Mo or Cu, zinc titanate, arsenic trisulphide, lead chromate, cadmium arsenide, anthracene or anthraquinone. In a specific embodiment a mixture of soya oil and pentaerythritol is heated and Ca acetate added to reduce the acid number of the polyester. The cooled mixture is treated with tolylene di-isocyanate to yield a polyester-polyurethane resin which was mixed with ZnO, eosin yellow, alphazurin and Co naphthenate and coated on paper. The remaining unsaturated sites will cross-link by air oxidation after application to the substrate.
