Abstract

1,205,484. Electro-plating barrels. STERLING SYSTEMS Ltd. March 20, 1968 [March 27, 1967], No. 13599/68. Heading C7B. A portable unitary assembly 10 for use with an electro-plating tank includes a frame, e. g. comprising a pair of vertical members 13 and 14 joined together in spaced relation at the top by a pair of panels 16 and 17, supporting a barrel 11 adapted to contain articles to be plated and rotated by drive means 12 carried on the frame, and support means, e.g. a pair of copper conductor bars 18 covered by insulating sleeves 32 and caps 33, associated with the frame for supporting the assembly on the plating tank with the barrel submerged in the plating fluid. The barrel includes a body formed of a plurality of panels a-f or a unitary cylindrical shape comprising a woven polypropylene fabric bonded to a rigid outer acrylic resin grid section, having a removable closure panel a. Each bar 18 may be engageable with a busbar 31 on the plating tank and connected to a flexible conductor 36 extending through an opening in each polypropylene end disc member 39, 41 of the barrel, which is driven by an electric motor between the panels 16 and 17 via gear 44. The frame may include a pair of depending legs between which the barrel is rotatably supported, with one of the legs being hinged to permit the barrel's removal.
