Abstract

1,204,018. Tobacco smoke filters; cigarettes. F. B. HASKETT. 24 Oct., 1968, No. 50565/68. Addition to 1,151,660. Heading A2C. That aspect of the invention of the parent Specification in which vitamin A- containing capsules are included in a tobaccosmoke filter element is modified by the use of capsules: (1) that are rupturable by the heat of the smoke; (2) that are rupturable by the suction produced when the smoker draws on the cigarette; (3) that contain vitimin A in the palmitate form; and (4) that contain vitamin A in the acetate form. In further modifications of the invention of the parent specification: (5) a filter cigarette includes rupturable micro-capsules of vitamin A placed between its tobacco charge and its outer wrapper; and (6) the tobacco charge of a smoking article, e.g. a cigarette, includes capsules of vitamin A in the acetate or palmitate forms. Suitable encapsulating materials include gelatin, solidified egg white, thermoplastic and thermosetting synthetic resins that melt or disintegrate below 1100‹F. In addition to vitamin A the capsules may also include other vitamins such as C and E and/or flavouring agents such as menthol pectin and chlorophyll.
