1,202,473. Projectile fuzes. FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE, S.A. 4 July, 1968 [10 July, 1967], No. 32032/68. Heading F3A. [Also in Division H1] A fuze for spinning projectiles comprises a pyrotechnic chain having at least a primer and detonator (not shown), a part 11 of the train being carried by a movable member 10 responsive to centrifugal force for shifting the part 11 from a safety position into an active position in alignment with the rest of the train, a releasable lock 27 for locking the member 10 in its safety position, and means responsive to centrifugal force for releasing the lock, the release means including a mass 39 arranged to effect a rotation and translational movement respectively about and along its intended direction of travel under the action of the centrifugal force. The mass 39 is in the form of a nut engaging a helical thread 36 formed on the outside surface of a fixed hollow tube 29. The lock 27 is integral with a displaceable rod extending through the tube and terminating in a washer 35. A displaceable lock 40 secures the mass 39, and bolts 20 and 21 responsive to centrifugal force extend into notches 16 and 17 formed in the movable member 10. Upon launching a projectile fitted with the fuze, the bolts 20 and 21 are withdrawn from their respective notches and the member 10 is displaced by a distance determined by the width of a notch 26. Displacement of the member 10 by this amount permits pivotal movement of a lever 44 and thereby release of the lock 40 under the action of a spring 42. The released mass 39 then moves along the tube 29 to engage the washer 35 and lift the lock 27 out of the notch 26. As the member 10 moves to align the part 11 with the remainder of the pyrotechnic train, conductors 50 on either side of an insulating plate 40 engage electrical contacts 51. Teeth formed on the contacts engage grooves 52 in the conductors to aid retention. The contacts 51 form part of a circuit for a target detecting unit and a mechanism for correcting the projectile trajectory by the lateral projection of a subsidiary projectile.
